Dr. Mel Hershenfield received his dental degree from McGill University and his M.Sc. degree and specialty certification in periodontics from Boston University’s School of Graduate Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University, and an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists, the Canadian specialty licensing body.
Dr. Hershenfield has been involved in organized dentistry at the Local, Provincial and National levels. He was an Administrator at L’Ordre des Dentistes du Quebec, General Chairman of Les Journees Dentaires du Quebec, Vice-president of La Fondation de L’Ordre des Dentistes du Quebec, Past-president of the Quebec Association of Periodontists, Quebec Section of the American College of Dentists, and Alpha Omega-Mount Royal Dental Society. He has also chaired numerous committees at the Canadian Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Hershenfield is also a Fellow of two dental honour societies, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
Outside of dentistry, Mel has been active in many community endeavors and is an avid golfer and tennis player. Mel and his wife Elaine have two sons and five grandchildren.
