DISCOMFORT: When the anesthetic wears off, some discomfort may ensue from the operation just performed. In order to be comfortable during this period, take the prescribed medication as directed.
BLEEDING: There may be occasional blood stains in the saliva during the first few hours. If there is significant bleeding, apply pressure with a damp gauze or moistened tea bag for 30 minutes. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated for the first three days is advisable.
SWELLING: Slight swelling or discoloration may occur on the face or in the general area where surgery was performed and may take 3-4 days to develop. If an ice pack is recommended by the doctor, apply it to the face for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off, for the first 3-6 hours after treatment.
EATING: Avoid hot foods and hot fluids for the first week following surgery. Do not eat on the area of the surgery until instructed that it is safe to do so.
BRUSHING: Do not brush nor floss the area where the surgery was performed. The area must be kept clean. This can be done by BATHING the area twice daily. DO NOT RINSE VIGOROUSLY.
EXERCISE: Avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours. This is to avoid raising your blood pressure which may result in bleeding.
